We were talking about something serious and the next logical, not-at-all far-fetched question she asked was:
Therapist:
Have you ever felt used?
Me:
uh, well, not really - okay yeah I guess
- I name the person and situation in which I felt used, but then explain that the reason I was in that situation was because I proposed the idea, but the way I phrased it was...
Me:
yeah, but I don't think that should count 'cause I asked for it
- don't worry, it wasn't anything physical or sexual
Therapist:
that sounds like the excuse an abuse victim would give, blame themselves, say "I asked for it"
Me:
*I immediately hear "(dun-dun) In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories." so I start laughing and explain why I'm laughing.*
Me:
Sorry, I hear the word abuse and I think SVU *laughs...alone. she's clearly not amused*
Therapist:
it's interesting that you automatically do that even though I was being serious
